New Horizons: A Look at Changes in Beyond the Pen

New Horizons: A Look at Changes in Beyond the Pen

And I am back, ladies and gentlemen, this week. It's going to be a little bit different today. It is going to be an update to the show. There's a lot of things going on. There's a lot of different people coming in and out. It's, it's gonna be fun. It's gonna be fun, that's for sure. First off, I want to thank everybody for, you know, telling people about the show, sharing leaving comments, reviews everything and anything that's just helping us to be seen more on Google, on all the platforms. You guys are awesome. I love you each and every one of you. We have picked up a lot of people in the past couple of days, mainly because I finally was able to actually get the descriptions up and.

Few more things so that the SEOs and all the marketing stuff is able to find us a little bit better. It's been a long weekend for me, I promise you on that. I have tried not to work as hard, but if anybody knows me, who's actually listened to me, and who knows me in person, trust me, it's not an easy thing to do sometimes but. That being said, I did want to really take this time to tell everybody what was going on for the new people that are just now hearing this.

Thank you for joining us. My name is Maccabee. I am a voice actor, podcaster, of course, and a writer. And one of the things that I love to do is really to analyze books. Characters, people in general, and just try to understand what the story is behind their stories. And one of the things, unfortunately, it's been happening is that that people have noticed Marcella has not been here for a while due to scheduling things have been going on. She's been becoming very busy. And unfortunately, she's had to step away from the podcast. Hopefully, she'll come back later on, but until that point, we wish her all the best. So, I will be going back to being a single host again. If something comes up and I bring in some guest co-hosts here and there, just know that it is not a replacement for her.

It is merely just trying to create a better product for you guys. And speaking of which, one of the things that's going to be changing a lot is that we're gonna be changing the format a little bit. Not too much, just enough to shake things up. First off, one of the things I wanna be starting to do is actually read a little bit of the books that I have been reading to understand and analyze for the author. Not much. I'm not gonna read like the entire thing or a chapter or anything. Probably about a page or two, give or take, just depending on. What it is, and that way, you guys can understand where I'm coming from a little bit when I'm looking at this stuff. Obviously, for the experts that we bring on, there's not much there, but you know what? We'll figure something out with them. I think. Getting them to really give us a little bit more of an intro for themselves and, you know, their expertise and things like that.

Maybe in lieu of that. But I was still going to, you know, do the actual intros and everything else. Like I've have been, nothing too much is gonna change. We're obviously still gonna be talking about the books. Again, for those who are still new, I read between three to five chapters of each book; that way, we can, you know, get a good idea of the exposition of the book is and just give you, give you a little hook to express an interest into the books as well as the authors, obviously. And we're still gonna be doing that, and it's gonna be great. It's always fun to do that and to figure out, you know, what we can get out of the authors. And, of course, Put them on the spot because I love asking questions that they've never had asked before. And it's fun to just see their faces. I obviously, you know, for you guys, it's a little bit harder because there's not a lot of videos out there. However, for some of those, we have on Traverse TV.

You can go on your Roku channels, Amazon Fire, Google Play, and I've been told that they are almost done, if not done now, with Apple TV and iTunes. So you'll be able to see the first season of Beyond the Pen on the Traverse Channel. Oh, by the way, they also have an app, so you can definitely go on there too. So that helps. But here's something else that's gonna be interesting. I'm, this is gonna be part of the shakeup too, is that we're gonna start to do a little bit of creative improv on each episode. We are going to try to develop a character by rolling the dice and see what we can pick up through their storytelling and really see if we can create a character with a great backstory that you guys are going to wish that was in the book or, you know, figure something out to just make it a little bit more fun. Cuz even with our experts, they're still storytellers.

Why not it keep it going? So, that's gonna be a great thing. And you know there's always the Shameless Self-promotions and figuring out where our authors are found. Obviously, you guys can find their profiles on our website BeyondthePenPodcast.Com, and it'll have all their links. It'll have a little bit of their bio where you can get their books, everything you need on them, and more. So that's some of the things that are gonna be changing in regards to the format. But there are some great authors that are gonna be coming up. You know, we have, you know, Tom Fowler, Matthew Whitten, Tonya Eberhart, Lee Schneider, and a lot, lot more. And some of these people. I've had the great opportunity to talking to 'em, and they're gonna be absolutely amazing.

You guys are gonna fall in love with them as much as I have. Definitely have a lot of true crime coming the way cuz, again, I like true crime. So it's always fun to have those. But we have some sci-fi dystopias, we have some historical fiction. We even have, and this will be interesting too. I had a gentleman recently reach out to me about, Having him on the show, and he has created comic books. And I was wondering, I was like, man, should I really have 'em on here for that? And then I started to think about it. I was like, you know what? Comic books are still part of the literary world.

You know why? Because they tell stories. They have great stories, and they have pictures. So you know exactly what's going on. And yes, this is a little bit different, but you know what? Why not? It's a new year. It's having fun. It's telling stories. That's what we do. We still get down to the nitty-gritty of every story, no matter what, and that's, that's gonna be interesting to have. Plus, we can start talking about the illustrations too, because not only is he a comic book author, but he also is the one that's actually drew the illustrations as well. So we've got an artist on there, so that's gonna be helping us out too, to give you guys an idea of where you can go to find people to, to illustrate your books and, you know, what it's like to do all this stuff.

So besides that, we have great event coming up this April, and I'm gonna be a part of it. If everybody has listened to some of the earlier episodes, it was a three-part series. Was with the local library here in the Indianapolis area. And this year, we're coming back for another year at the Hamilton East Library local Author Fair. And it's gonna be on April 15th. That's a Saturday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM Eastern Standard Time at the Forum Event Center in Fishers, Indiana. Now, last year and I, I talked to the young lady that was in charge of it, Ms. Danielle Acton, and she agreed, obviously, for us to come back, mainly because when we were there last year, I think they had about 25 to 35 people last year. This year they have because and it was hard for them to come to get people in for some reason. But because of you, great folks out there being, sharing all their stories and of obviously because of all their hard work as well, they had over 110 people request to actually be a part of it.

And not all of them were local. Some of. You know, we're in other states, which was amazing, and I thank you all for that. That is so awesome. So because of that, they decided to bring us back for another recording, and hopefully, we can have some video. I have; I have some things in mind. I have some friends that are videographers in the local area, and hopefully, we can actually get some videos recorded and put up on Traverse tv or you. Put back up on our website, whatever the case may be. We're gonna try as much as we can to get you guys some actual video footage of that. If not, we're going to get a whole lot of pictures of anything. So that was, that was going to be fun. And that, again, that's gonna be in April. So note that we're going to be not only talking to Danielle Acton about the event, but we're also going to talk to one of her colleagues Mr. Joseph Wooley. Now, Mr. Joseph Wooley is the one you want to go to to get your books in. We're gonna have him on prior to April.

I think it's the last week of, of March if I remember correctly. But he is going to be able to tell you, guys, what you need to do to get your books into these libraries. Because, again, we wanna share all these great stories. And the best way to do that is. To talk to your local libraries because you never know if it does well there, you may be able to put it into these other great libraries because we want to support our local libraries because without them, you know, there's, there's not a lot of stories anymore. And so these guys are gonna be the ones that we really want to talk to about that. So those are some great things that we're gonna be coming up for the next couple of months.

And. It's gonna be fun, and because of some of the projects that I am gonna be on as well, we are going to be talking to a variety of different organizations that are specifically to the publishing world. I believe there's gonna be at least five different organizations that I have coming up that are going to be able to tell you where you can find them, what type of genres you need to worry about, and you know, be a part of this. So these people are some of the best in the, in the US and we're going to be able to see what they need to do.

So speaking of the projects, I have started to do a little bit more writing in the way of proofreading some books. I'm working with the MediaCasters, LLC., and I've actually gotten a position as the Senior Content Developer, which is awesome. But that basically just means that I help to look at a lot of the books, come up with some of the ideas, help authors to really develop a few things, as well as again, proofreading and editing, working on the editing but mostly proofreading. We have a great editor. Her name is Renee, and she's a wonderful woman lover to death. She's gonna, she's actually teaching me a little bit of editing here and there, as well as I got a book coming my way on the Chicago style of editing. I didn't even know there was a difference, but there is.

So go figure on that one. But maybe in the future, I'll have some of. Folks on the show, I know I have a gentleman by the name of Gary Hall, who is a retired admiral, he wrote a book called Navigating Leadership, and it's actually a really good book. It's got a lot of great leadership goals through his life story, and you get to pick up on a lot of these different things, and it's great book, and it's gonna be coming out probably, I think we decided this coming fall, I think it is.

Besides that, I'm also on the project called Man You Are Crazy, and it's basically just talking about police officers dealing with P T S D and all the little things with mental health and how their families have to deal with that stuff. So it's gonna be a great book. We're, we're working on the sponsorships right now, so if you guys know of any organizations or people you think would be interested in helping us to raise money for it, then I will have the links in the profiles about this. So that's another one. And I'm also working on one with a lovely lady and her daughter about her living with Ms. Helen Keller back in 1953, 1954 when she was about 10 years old. So we are actually putting that book together, and it's, it's gonna be interesting. I love her to death. I do, I love her and her daughter.

And once we get a little bit further with that, I will let you guys know what it is called, where you guys can find it, and we'll even try to bring them on as well. So that's pretty much everything right now. Hopefully, we'll be able to get some more information to you guys as well as we're, again, you know, we're always looking for great authors to come to us, their PR reps, whatever the case may be. Be able to share their stories, their unique stories. So if y'all know of anybody that's really interested in being on the show, you know, y'all can send them to BeyondthePenPodcast.Com. There is a a guest registration form on there. They can fill that out, and then I'll be able to look it up and gimme time because I'm only one person doing the job of 15 different people.

But I will do my best to get to you guys as quickly as I can. I am also continuously updating the website as well as just all these pod pages and everywhere we can go cuz what's funny is actually found out recently we are on over 55 different platforms I've done. , you know, hard work in the background, trying to get it on as many platforms as possible, but 55 plus, man, that's insane. So you guys have no excuses not to be able to hear us or find us and just enjoy these great stories from the beginning all the way up. Cuz we have this'll, this one right now is number 62 out of the entire year that we've had this up, 62 episodes, and it's insane. And you know what, I'm proud of it. I am, and I am looking forward to having more.

Interviews with great authors great experts, and even though you know some more live events every once in a while, so it'll be fun and. I hope you guys will stick around with me along this journey and so we can all just keep writing and inspiring and sharing. Everything that we have in store for our next generation of authors and creative people in general. So I hope you all have a great day today. I hope you have a great week, and I will see you next time.
